CHRISTMAS MESSAGE - December 2007

At this time of year inevitably thoughts turn to the traditional family festive break for which we wish you all a happy peaceful and enjoyable Chrismas and New Year. The past 12 months have proved interesting with some memorable events and highlights not least supporting bands like Hawkwind,Osibisa and Solstice and playing with the wonderful and highly talented Anna Phoebe. True there were disappointments along the way like the proposed Wild Turkey UK tour in March with Cold Flame in support not materialising after the tour promoter went AWOL but hey such is life and lets stay positive.Talking of which we are ordering extra large umbrellas ready for next summer direct from Santa himself.

BAND NEWS
---------

The main piece of news at the moment is that Peter has now almost completed a brand new solo album of original material with the working title - One Man's Nemesis. There are 13 tunes on the album with Peter playing most of the instruments himself.Expect a release in January with full details appearing on the website in due course.Having already recorded some new backing tracks for both an acoustic and an electric album, the band will be making sure that 2008 sees at least one brand new studio album from Cold Flame.

On the gig front we hope to see you at our up and coming Christmas Shows especially Saturday Dec.15th at The New Lamp in Hadfield which is becoming a regular event for the band...Starts at 8.30pm and its free.See gig guide for further details. Please note that the acoustic gig at The Swan Hotel in New Mills has been rescheduled for mid January. However there will be a Christmas special at the same venue now on Saturday December 22nd when the band will be playing a rock and blues set.Following a short Xmas break, Cold Flame will be out and about once more in January and a new gig guide for 2008 will appear on the website very soon.

Best mention guitarist Rob who has excelled himself recently in an acoustic competition featuring solo talent from all over High Peak and Greater Manchester.

The competition held in Glossop's music venue - The Moon and Sixpence which has attracted massive local interest has been running for several months and Rob has now reached the semi finals. So all you local Flame fans, come along and support Rob when he plays on Sunday December 16th at The Moon and Sixpence, on Bernard Street in the town centre starting at 8.00pm.

On a more serious note Davyd of the keyboards has been forced to take a month off from band activities following some routine but necessary surgery last week. Our occasional guitarist Simon has also been in the wars recently breaking his wrist playing football.

Fortunately both Davyd and Simon are now making good recoveries and will be back playing soon.Do feel free to email the chaps with your well wishes.

And finally....thank you for the company and support again this year.Keep checking both band websites.Have a great time over Christmas and we will see you in the New Year.

Cold Flame December 10 2007

NOVEMBER 2007
--------------

As you will have read/heard elsewhere Cold Flame went down a storm at The Weyfest festival in Surrey in early September ending up playing with none other than the incredible Anna Phoebe guest violinist on the recent Jethro Tull Acoustic European Tour.Part of the band's performance at Weyfest playing Tull's 1969 classic 'Fatman' has been captured for all to see - check it out on UTUBE or www.myspace.com/coldflameuk.
For more info on this event read our feature item on the festival at the top of the Newspage...pictures from this event to appear shortly. There are also ongoing updates available at www.weyfest.co.uk regarding next year's bash.
Futher Tull tributes in the north of England in Bury and then in Crewe have been both well received and well attended and the band looks forward to up and coming Tull tribute dates in early November in Leeds and Hednesford with more Tull tributes dates already booked for next year.See gig guide for links etc. Meanwhile as yet no news on new live/studio releases but watch this space as work is in progress.

GIG NEWS
A couple of the band's regular haunts have recently closed their doors to live music altogether albeit for different reasons and this has affected the gigging schedule for this Autumn as a result. However the guys continue to check out new venues and opportunites and welcome all enquiries. On the positive side recent gigs have all been very successful and hugely enjoyable which is of course the raison d'etre. Please note that the Xmas Acoustic special at The New Lamp in Hadfield on Saturday December 15th will now be mainly Tull related with the whole band sans drummer Phil performing many of Jethro Tull's acoustic classics alongside some new original and seasonal songs. There are plans to invite along some special guests to this gig so do come along. Check the gig guide for new gigs and updates.Already there are some gigs booked for 2008 and these will be added to over the next few weeks ready for posting on the website.

WEBSITE PHOTOS
We are pleased to announce that our good friend and resident photographer Stuart Steele who has recently been working with The Stranglers has taken time out to take live action pics of the band.Yes after months of no new piccies, Davyd and Peter are now working with Stuart's snaps with a view to making them available for all to see. You can check out a sample of these pics at www.myspace.com/partmanpartbeard

MYSPACE
Cold Flame established a myspace site approx 18 months ago.Whilst being somwhat time consuming at times, the benefits of running this site have been obvious as the feedback received and displayed on the site testifies.
The band have made new friends all over the world and this has led to all kinds of links being established - all very positive for Cold Flame.Sadly whilst one can acknowledge and embrace modern technology in helping to promote the music, it also means that there is a danger inherent as low life exists on the net in abundance as the band found out recently.Yep the site was hacked into on October 11th causing some inconvenience.Myspace were immediately alerted and have acted by freezing the admin on the site to avoid further hacking taking place. In other words the site still works and can be accessed by anyone but as yet the band are not able to admin the site till this is sorted with myspace. This is regretable and everyone associated with the band hopes that things will return to normal asap not least as a whole new lot of group diaries is about ready to be unleashed. In the meantime do feel free to post a comment on the site showing your support and understanding.Cold Flame really do appreciate the support the myspace site has given to the chaps...long may this continue.Should you want to message the band in the meantime do so at info@cold-flame.co.uk

BIG CHAS AND THE BUSINESS
Should your preference in music veer towards big band soul with r n b leanings then check out the Flame's alter ego.The eight piece vindaloo soul rockers featuring a madcap four piece brass section will be headlining an open air festive special to switch on the Christmas lights on Friday November 30th in Norfolk Square in Glossop town centre. The concert which is hosted by Glossop Round Table and Rotary Clubs will also feature stars from Coronation Street and Emmerdale and will be compered by High Peak Radio. The concert has become a popular local annual event in the last few years attracting well over a thousand people so given the popularity of what is really Cold Flame plus brass, this year's event promises to be the best yet.For further info contact Glossop tourist information.

WEBSITE UPDATES
Some more work has taken place in updating info on the site. Now that Patrick's two solo albums have been remastered and rereleased new details can be found in the Albums section on the website. The gig guide is always being updated as and when there are new dates/changes taking place.Photos taken this year both individual and group shots are currently being prepared for viewing. We have been contacted by somone who took pics when the band played in Italy a couple of years back so hopefully these will also be available for viewing soon.

STERNDALE MOOR FESTIVAL JULY 2007
During this year's very wet summer experienced all over Britain, Cold Flame took part in a fund raising festival for a very worthy cause namely The Derbyshire Air Ambulance Service.Organiser Roger Peckham contacted the band recently and here is part of his email.....'Apologies for not having contacted you sooner to thank Cold Flame for their contribution to our Charity event in aid of the County Air Ambulance.
We enjoyed your set very much which helped us raise the sum of £2002.37 all of which we handed over to the Air Ambulance recently. We were told this would pay for 3 call outs. Apparantly the whole organisation is run from money raised by events such as ours.To this end, and because we're gluttons for punishment, we have decided that we will run this event annually.Next year it will be over the Saturday & Sunday dated 6th & 7th September when we will be hoping for better weather.I wonder whether you would consider supporting us again on a similar basis to this year. It would be appropriate to try to involve local people to support us in my view.Once again many thanks for your kind support this year.'
Thanks go to Roger and his team for their sterling efforts made this year. The band will be contacting Roger in due course with a view to again being involved in next year's festival in helping to both promote finance and awareness for a truly vital service which saves lives year in year out.

JETHRO TULL 40th ANNIVERSARY TOUR
How time has flown from those early blues driven days in the Marquee Club back in 1968 through decade after decade Jethro Tull have ploughed a steady furrow unique in the world of rock music.Ian, Martin and co show no signs of giving up just yet as dates are already planned in the spring of next year for Jethro Tull's 40th Anniversary. No news yet on who might be accompanying Ian and Martin though we sincerely hope that the crew comprises Doane Perry, Andrew Giddings and Jonathan Noyce.Meanwhile a new Tull album of sorts scheduled for release this Autumn would now seem to be logically timed to coincide with next Spring's tour.
Following this tour Ian Anderson has scheduled some orchestral concerts in Germany.

SEPTEMBER 2007
--------------

Apologies for lack of updates in recent months. This has now been attended to as you will notice this month.

After the traditional short summer break, the band reconvened at the end of August to play a storming set in Disbury, Manchester as a warm up to the band's Autumn gigging schedule which begins at Weyfest - see below.

Cold Flame are journeying down south performing a Jethro Tull tribute show at this year's WEYFEST held at The Rural Life Centre, Farnham in Surrey on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd of September. Over the many years the festival has been running it has raised thousands of pounds for many charities. This year the festival will run over two days for the first time ever with two outdoor stages plus an indoor acoustic stage. There will be a Music Workshop provided by the Surrey Strings of Merton Abbey Mills and there is abundant on-site camping.Apart from main headlining acts Osibisa and The Steve Gibbons Band, other confirmed acts include Vickie Clayton, Anna Phoebe, Leatherat,Solstice, The True Deceivers, The Nashville Teens, Ric Sanders Band[aka Fairport Convention] Chris Conway, Robin Bibi Band, Spank the Monkey and of course Cold Flame who are set to play a Tull tribute set on the Sunday afternoon.   AUTUMN SCHEDULE
New dates have already been booked through to Christmas and beyond - some of these dates will include guest perfomances from old friends:guitarists Simon and Dave C and drummer Keith.Jethro Tull tribute shows and original rock performances will once again mingle with the occasional acoustic soiree.See the band gig guide for further details and regular updates with website links to your fave venues. The band are particularly interested in playing new venues and welcome all enquiries.

  ALBUM RELEASES
Having released the new live double album Live Up The Pool in June, the plan was to release Patrick's remastered solo albums in July.Unfortunately problems at the printers has meant an unavoidable delay but rest assured the albums will both be available this month see below.

PATRICK ROWBOTTOM - TINKER TAILOR WORKER WAILER Patrick's first solo album - a collection of 15 rock, blues, new age and acoustic tracks originally recorded and released in 1991 now remastered using the Cold Flame mobile studio with bonus tracks featuring some ex members of Cold Flame. New details to be found on the ALBUMS page.Release date is Friday September 21st with all Flame albums this album will be available direct from the band.Julian our resident artist has worked with Patrick on both solo albums which feature revamped designs.

PATRICK ROWBOTTOM - THE SANDS OF TIME Patrick's second solo album from 1995 - a collection of acoustic and folk rock tunes loosely themed around the English Civil War 1661 - 1665...again remastered with bonus studio tracks as well as previously unreleased 'live bootleg' material again featuring contributions from ex Flame members. The album is now released as a double with one cd being studio and the other live.New details to be found on the ALBUMS page very soon. Release date is Friday September 21st. As with all Flame albums this album will be available direct from the band.

You may be thinking that having released a double live album this year the chances of any further live Cold Flame releases for the next few years are slim.Thats what the band thought too until a nos of circumstances combined recently and as a result a special limited edition live cd will be released sometime in October highlighting recordings made by the band a few years ago for local radio stations.More details to follow very soon.Meanwhile the band will definitely start work on a brand new studio album this Autumn and hopefully more acoustic material will be recorded for the long awaited acoustic album.
